Wiser Home Controller Installation Instructions

2.0 Network Topology

You should carefully consider the existing network layout at the customer

site before installing the Wiser Home Controller. Try to minimise the

amount of reconfiguration required. There are a couple of important points

to remember during the Wiser Home Controller installation.

• The Wiser Home Controller is not a modem. You must connect the

router to an Internet connection, NOT a telephone line. A

broadband modem is not provided as part of Wiser Home

Controller.

• The Wiser Home Controller has wired and wireless LAN capabilities.

The CNI uses one wired router LAN port. The three remaining wired

ports are for IP connections to the local LAN.

2.1 Mapping Your Existing Network

There are many variations found in home networks. By mapping the

existing network, you make it much easier to see what cabling and

configuration tasks must be performed when installing the Wiser Home

Controller.

Example:

The figure below shows a basic network configuration that is common in

many homes. The network might use automatic IP addressing (DHCP), static

IP addressing or a mix of the two.

In the example above, the customer can easily access the static IP address

of the modem/router to set wireless security parameters.
